Today, the Minnesota Legislature reconvened for the 2018 session. The Minnesota PTA Board of Directors approved our 2018 Legislative and Policy Agenda on January 20. The Legislative and Policy Agenda outlines the focus areas for Minnesota PTA advocacy this legislative session. There are two areas of advocacy activity:
Legislative Focus – These are areas where Minnesota PTA will actively advocate for legislation, including:
- Student support staff
- Special education cross subsidy
- Vouchers, tax credits and scholarships
- Teacher recruitment, retention and diversity
- Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and World’s Best Workforce
Policy Focus – Minnesota PTA will provide research, best practices, and strategies to support our local units and members as they advocate in the following areas:
- Parent and family engagement in ESSA implementation
- Healthy sleep for teens
- School lunch policies
- Recess
- Teacher and staff appreciation
- 2018 elections
