Increase Teachers of Color Act Bill H.F. 3201

This year, one of MNPTA’s top priorities is the ‘Increase the Teachers of Color Act’ which can be found in depth on the 2020 Legislative and Policy Agenda, with bill amendments that focus on policies, programs and funding related to increasing diversity within the schools. One of the bills that MNPTA is tracking during the 2020 Legislative session is H.F. 3201 which was introduced 2/20 and focuses on strengthening the Increase Teachers of Color Act and seeking to increase the percentage of teachers of color and American Indian teachers in Minnesota, requiring reports, and appropriating money. This bill, like others, are helping to strengthen the Increase Teachers of Color bills that were brought forth during the 2019 Legislative session and can be found in depth here. The first hearing for this bill was on February 19th 2020 within the Education Policy Committee where is was transferred to the Education Finance Committee. No new hearings have been posted yet as of right now.
